  • What is your mission and how did you get started?

  • Can anyone use your services?

Any New York City firefighter, active or retired, and their immediate family members can take advantage of our services.

  • You’re located in Brooklyn but I’m not a Brooklyn firefighter, can I still come to FoF?

Of course, we serve all of New York City’s firefighters (FDNY).

  • I’ve heard of Friends of Firefighters but want to find out what you’re about before signing up for a service.

If you would like to get to know us before signing up for a service, feel free to stop by the old firehouse for a visit, where we are Monday – Friday from 9-5. Or, join us for our monthly On the Arm Breakfast, where you can enjoy a meal with your peers.

  • Do I have to use your services if I come to the firehouse?

No, many firefighters view FoF as their home away from home – a place to be around peers, and an opportunity to volunteer and help us out since there is always work to be done. Whether you want to come by for one of our services, a cup of coffee, or to help out with a project, you are always welcome.

  • Is there a fee for your services?

The only service that we charge for is Massage Therapy; all other services are free of charge.

  • Do I have to be invited to the On the Arm Breakfasts?

No, On the Arm Breakfasts are held the second Wednesday of every month from 8am – 11am and are open to all firefighters & families, service men and women & families, and volunteers. Click here for more information.

  • Are counseling appointments flexible?  Do I need to commit to a regular schedule?
Yes, appointments are flexible and no, you do not need to commit to a regular schedule, although many people choose to do so.  We are open Monday – Friday 9-5.  Evening appointments are sometimes available as well.  We’ll work with you and your schedule.
  • How is my privacy protected?
“What you say here, stays here.” Your identity is never shared with others, whether you come for massage therapy, a financial workshop, or counseling services.  We are not affiliated with the FDNY and no records are shared.
  • What type of counseling do you offer?
All types – trauma focused, family counseling, marital counseling, counseling for anger management, depression, anxiety, and loss.
  • How do I sign up for a service?

  • I want to make a monetary donation to FoF, how can I do that?

It’s easy – visit our Donate section to find out how.

  • I want to donate food/tools/tangible items to FoF, how can I do that?

We are happy to accept tangible donations.  You can call ahead to see if we are in use of what you would like to donate, or drop it off when we are open.

  • How can I volunteer with FoF?

  • Where are you located and what are your hours?

Find directions here.  Our offices are located in an old firehouse in Red Hook, Brooklyn. We are open Monday – Friday, 9-5, and closed for 10 holidays throughout the year, listed here.
